ABOUT US

Located just two and a half miles from Charmouth beach and five miles from the cliffs of West Bay, home to the popular TV show Broadchurch, The Five Bells Inn is located within the stunning countryside of the Marshwood Vale. Built sometime in the late 1700s, the then thatched Five Bells Inn was so named because the local church, St Candida and the Holy Cross, had five bells within its tower; it now holds eight.  On November 5th 1904 the building was consumed by fire, only to be rebuilt a year later.  The only remaining part of the original building are the flagstones you walk upon as you enter the bar.

Pat and her late husband, Laurence along with their son Martyn and their mad dog Max, took over The Five Bells in October of 1997. After Laurence passed away, Pat’s daughter Stacey stepped into his shoes as Landlady & Licensee. Over two decades on and very little about The Five Bells has changed, it remains a central hub for the village and essentially a traditional English pub; the food is simple and wholesome, the service is warm and friendly and Pat has become an institution in her own right.
